Nottingham Forest have now held “concrete talks” to sell a £60k-a-week player in the January transfer window, and he wants to leave.

Forest suffer setback against Man City

Forest didn’t make things easy for Premier League title contenders Manchester City at the City Ground on Saturday, but the visitors ultimately came away with all three points, courtesy of Rayan Cherki’s late winner.

Fortunately for Sean Dyche’s side, they remain five points clear of the relegation zone, as Nuno’s West Ham United slipped up at home against Fulham, which means there is still some breathing room near the bottom of the table.

However, with the Tricky Trees losing three of their last four Premier League matches, they are still in danger of being relegated, and there is clearly work to be done in the upcoming transfer window, which gets underway in just four days’ time.

Dyche is expecting a quiet month, although he doesn’t completely rule out some new arrivals, saying: “The club spent a lot of money getting ready for this challenge of having the Europa League, the Premier League and whatever comes in the other cups,

“I think it is unlikely (to be busy). But on the other hand, this club has shown that if things become available at the right time and the right people are involved then it can happen.”

However, there may also be a departure, with Sky Sports reporter Florian Plettenberg taking to X to state “concrete talks” have now been held with Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt over a deal for Arnaud Kalimuendo, who only arrived at the City Ground during the summer.

Kalimuendo has been identified as a “serious option” for the German side, should they miss out on Newcastle United striker William Osula, with discussions getting underway recently, and it has already been revealed the centre-forward wants to leave, given a lack of regular game time.

The 23-year-old has played under three managers since arriving at Forest in the summer, but he seemingly hasn’t done enough to impress any of them, given that he is yet to start a game in the Premier League.

Under Dyche, the Frenchman has failed to even make it off the bench in seven of the last nine league games, which means it is probably the correct decision to sanction a January departure, despite him scoring two goals in the Europa League.

Igor Jesus and Taiwo Awoniyi are seemingly ahead of the former Rennes man in the pecking order, with the latter being brought off the bench against Man City, while Chris Wood, who Dyche has praised in the past, is still to return from injury.

As such, Nottingham Forest can afford to get rid of one of their strikers next month, and it makes most sense to offload Kalimuendo, who pockets £60k-a-week.
