In fact, they started the match merrily with a run spree of 370 for 8 on the first day, which incidentally was also their third highest score in a day’s play in Test Cricket, after scoring a record 400 for 4 against New Zealand at Dunedin in 1972-73 and 388-3 against England at Old Trafford in 1992.The world record for most runs scored in a day’s play for any side is 503-2 by England (from 28-0 to 531-2) against South Africa on the 2nd day at Lords in 1924. For both sides it is 588-6 (England 398-6) against India (190-0) on the 2nd day at Old Trafford in 1936.
