USMNT midfielder Weston McKennie has joked about his telepathic connection with Juventus forward Dusan Vlahovic after notching another assist.

    WHAT HAPPENED?

    Juventus picked up a vital win on Tuesday night, beating Lazio 2-0 to take the advantage in their Coppa Italia semi-final going into the second leg. Second-half goals from Federico Chiesa and Vlahovic did the trick for the Vecchia Signora, with McKennie on hand to assist the Serbian forward for Juve's second. After picking up his 10th assist of the campaign in all competitions, the American joked online the he and Vlahovic share a special connection.

    The Texas-born midfielder wrote in an Instagram post: "Always see you bro @vlahovicdusan We keep pushing!!!". Vlahovic responded in the comments with "My guy".

    The assist against Lazio means the 2023-24 campaign is McKennie's most effective in front of goal to date. His 10 assists this term overtake the nine goal contributions he managed in 2020-21 (6G, 3A). For Juve, Tuesday night offered a rare bright moment amid a dismal run of form, as they had picked up just one win from nine matches up to that point. The Coppa Italia remains Massimiliano Allegri's last chance of silverware, although it seems unlikely that winning the competition will be enough for him to keep his job.

  • WHAT NEXT FOR MCKENNIE?

    The USMNT midfielder will hope he has done enough to warrant a starting spot having been left out of the league game against Lazio at the weekend. Juve take on rivals Fiorentina in their next match and currently sit seven points ahead of fifth placed Roma in the race for the Champions League places.
